The Managing Director of the Trans-Pyrenees Foundation participated in a joint working group on the climate resilience of transport infrastructures in the Mediterranean and Atlantic corridor in Toulouse.
The conference analyzed how climate change – heat waves, floods, droughts and fires – is increasing physical and operational risks for roads and railroads, affecting connectivity, safety and the economy, highlighting the particular vulnerability of the railway sector and the urgent need for climate adaptation strategies. Issues such as risk assessment, impacts, data and tools, resilience strategies, investment needs, governance and cooperation were discussed. The importance of stakeholder coordination and EU support to ensure functional and resilient TEN-T infrastructures in the medium and long term was also highlighted.
