The annual conference organized by the European Commission (DG MOVE) held from September 30 to October 2 in Vilnius, brought together public decision-makers, experts and regional representatives to discuss urban nodes, cycling and public transport. Day 2 focused on cycling mobility.
The Transpirenaica Foundation followed the different sessions held. Among all the information transmitted, we can highlight:
- The Social Climate Fund seems to be established as the next funding framework for cycling infrastructure and support for the purchase of electric bicycles from 2027 onwards. NOTE: The Government of Spain’s Social Climate Plan aims to reduce transport poverty. It is currently undergoing a public consultation process.
- Bicycles can play a very important humanitarian role in situations resulting from war. The Bikes for Ukraine project bears witness to this.
- The EU Digital Identity Wallet will play an important role in mobility issues: contactless payments, access to low-emission zones, digital certificates, secure authentication and active mobility. NOTE: Associated with a goods transport vehicle, it can also have multiple applications (e.g. low-emission discounts).
