Safe and secure parking areas for trucks
In recent years, the European Union has taken firm steps towards the implementation of a network of Safe and Secure Parking Areas for Trucks to cover the existing demand.
The European Union has promoted two studies, one completed in December 2018 and the other of this same year 2025. It also set up an Expert Group on Safe and Secure Parking Areas for Trucks in 2019 to assist the Commission in their implementation, as well as in the definition of their technical specifications.
At the initiative of this Expert Group, a website was launched with the aim of providing information and facilitating the adoption of the SSTPA Standard.
On June 28, 2022, Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/1012 of April 7, 2022, was published on establishing standards detailing the level of service and safety of safe and secure parking areas, as well as the procedures for their certification.

The Commission is funding the development of safe parking areas through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
Within the framework of the Call 2024 Connecting Europe Facility, two parking lot projects located in the Autonomous Community of Aragon were selected:

SSTPA Logistics Platform PLAZAZERRATOGI SL: 2,928,940 €. 136 parking spaces.
